Relief at the pumps as fuel prices fall

| Economic factors

Motorists to see welcome relief as both petrol and diesel costs decline. South African drivers can expect a bit of financial respite this week, with fuel prices dropping from Wednesday, 5 November.

The Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources has confirmed that both 93- and 95-octane petrol (ULP and LRP) will decrease by 51 cents per litre, while diesel (0.05% sulphur) will go down by 21 cents and diesel (0.005% sulphur) by 19 cents.

Officials said the downward adjustment is largely the result of lower global oil prices, a firmer rand, and steady domestic market conditions.

During the latest review period, the average Brent crude oil price dropped from $67.16 to $64.14 per barrel, influenced by oversupply concerns and slower global demand amid persistent trade tensions. At the same time, the rand strengthened slightly from R17.49 to R17.29 against the US dollar, trimming the basic fuel price by 10.60 cents per litre for petrol and 11.77 cents per litre for diesel.

Updated fuel prices

Inland regions:

  • 93 Petrol – R20.97
  • 95 Petrol – R21.12
  • Diesel 0.05% (wholesale) – R19.13
  • Diesel 0.005% (wholesale) – R19.20

Coastal regions:

  • 93 Petrol – R20.18
  • 95 Petrol – R20.29
  • Diesel 0.05% (wholesale) – R18.30

These reductions mark a meaningful break for consumers heading into the final months of the year, easing some pressure from recent high fuel costs.
