BiBi on the move

| Ivana | Partner Content

At the heart of BiBi Cash & Carry is Tommy Makhatho, the Founder and MD. Tommy is an entrepreneur of note who first tried his hand in various ventures before opening his first BiBi Cash & Carry Family Supermarket in QwaQwa in 1998.

Since then, the BiBi empire has grown to include a Distribution Centre (DC) and 9 stores, mostly in the Eastern Free State. In the interim, Tommy was joined by his son Setjhaba Makhatho, and together they’ve built an operation “For the people, by the people”.

BiBi DC was the first store converted to Arch in early 2006, followed by BiBi Naledi later that year. The latest addition to the group is BiBi Plus, an impressive store (3,800 sqm) in QwaQwa. Over and above Dry Goods, the store also offers the following service departments to discerning shoppers: Butchery, Bakery, Fruit & Veg, Take Aways and a Smoothy Bar. Arch AP401 All-in-One TowerPOS checkout machines have been installed at the 52 checkout lanes , offering Integrated Prepaid Airtime and EFT at the POS. The total number of Arch supported points in the store is 60. This brings the number Arch supported points in the Group to 191.

Arch is proud to be a longstanding business partner of BiBi Cash & Carry and the Makhatho family. We wish Tommy, Setjhaba, and the BiBi Team at large all the best with the new landmark store. When accepting the prestigious Sanlam Business Partners Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2013, Tommy commented: “My dream is to become one of the major players in the FMCG market”. Tommy, the opening of BiBi Plus is testament to you guys living your dream!
