Once again, this event is held in honour of World Food Safety Day, celebrated annually on 7 June by the FAO and WHO. This day is dedicated to advancing the cause of safe food — and while food safety is critical every day, we are especially proud to support this important global initiative.

This year’s theme, “Safe Food in a Changing World,” explores several topics, including, rapidly-changing technologies and their impact on food safety and spoilage, food safety crises, certification matters, emerging and re-emerging pathogens, the latest on Listeria monocytogenes, cleaning & disinfection, food safety leadership, food safety challenges in food service and more, whilst always remaining grounded in the basics. Visit our speaker and programme pages for more information.

The heart-breaking deaths of more than 20 children from Terbufos poisoning in townships last year have underscored the urgent need for new approaches and innovative problem-solving strategies. This is a key focus area that we will explore together during the Summit.

With the township food economy making a significant contribution to South Africa’s GDP, it is essential that we collectively support food entrepreneurs — not only to help them access markets and grow their livelihoods, but also to empower them to produce safe food. This is vital for protecting consumers and ensuring long-term sustainability.

The Summit is a unique opportunity to learn from the expertise, insights, and passion of leading professionals from across industry, academia, and government — both locally and internationally.  We are also excited to unveil a novel and ground-breaking food safety initiative at the Summit, and we warmly invite you to be a part of it!

Don’t forget the exclusive Post Summit Workshop on Harnessing Hygiene for Food Safety, the day after the Summit on 05 June, also at Focus Rooms, where we explore the critical importance of hygienic design of equipment for effective cleaning and disinfection of your plant, in particular.
