Staycold International increases supply for sub-zero beverage coolers

South Africans love to watch their favourite sport with friends and family cheering, while enjoying their favourite beverages. This popular weekend pastime for many, especially with ice-cold drinks in hand, is one of the reasons why sub-zero beverage coolers were bought to the market.

Staycold International, a refrigeration manufacturer in South Africa, responded to this demand a number of years ago and designed sub-zero variants in their most popular unit sizes, meeting and contributing to the “gees” of the rainbow nation.

Staycold has been in operation for more than four decades from their factory in the Free State, and has progressively noticed an increase in demand for Sub-Zero beverage coolers over the past few years from their key customers. These coolers have a more powerful refrigerant system than a normal beverage cooler, which allows the unit to cool drinks down to -4°C, as opposed to the 2°C of their standard coolers. These high-performance units make the serving and presentation of beverages, especially ice-cold beer, all the more appetising and refreshing especially in the hot and humid African environment.

It is commonly acknowledged that an ice-cold beer tastes better than a warm one, and some maintain that by crossing that 0°C line you benefit from an enhanced flavour profile and a more direct thirst-quenching experience. High profile advertising campaigns from beverage companies have fuelled the markets demand to insist on having their products served “ice-cold” for this reason. Staycold are known in the market for their premium, high-performing, robust units that meet global safety and performance standards. So as demand has grown, they have been able to match supply and are now noticing their sales of Sub-Zero units are keeping track with their sales of normal coolers in recent years.

Sebastian Hills, Sales Director of Staycold International, said: “Our Sub-Zero range, built with the environment friendly hydrocarbon refrigerant (R290 gas), continues to increase in sales. They deliver an ice-cold thirst-quenching beverage, perfect for our climate to enhance taste, increase satisfaction and drive repeat sales. They also have faster “pull down speeds” than a normal cooler ie the speed a cooler “chills” products down from ambient after it has been placed in the cooler. This makes our Sub-Zero units also an excellent choice for busy/high throughput outlets.”

Staycold will continue to meet demand for sales in their newly expanded factory so they can continue to supply South Africa, Africa and global markets with these units well into the future. Their Sub-Zero range has recently expanded to include a smaller footprint, double door unit, the HD890-ZHC, to compliment the original offering of the single door unit HD690-ZHC and their larger footprint, double door HD1140-ZHC unit. The question is then raised, will the market skew to demanding more sub-zero beverage coolers in the future?
