Bisco Plus: Quality, Value and Choice for the Retail Trade

| Ivana | Partner Content

In today’s retail environment, shoppers are looking for products that deliver on taste, quality and value, while retailers need suppliers they can rely on to meet those changing expectations.

At Bisco Plus, we understand this balance because we have been part of the South African biscuit industry for more than three decades. Our experience has shaped not only the products we make, but also the way we work with our retail customers.

Established in 1992 as a small family business, Bisco Plus has grown into an established South African manufacturer producing more than 60 varieties of biscuits. Today, our portfolio includes our own HENRO and BISCO brands, as well as products manufactured for major retail partners and private-label opportunities. While our business has grown, we have remained committed to the values on which it was built: quality products, good service, innovation and strong customer relationships.

For our retail partners, this means access to a broad product offering designed to cater for different consumers, price points and shopping occasions, backed by a manufacturer that understands the realities and demands of the retail trade.

Something for every shopper

Biscuits remain an important everyday category. They are bought for lunchboxes, school snacks, tea time, entertaining or simply as an affordable treat. We have developed our portfolio with these different occasions and consumer preferences in mind, giving retailers the choice they need to build a relevant and appealing biscuit offering.

Our HENRO range includes popular favourites such as Marie biscuits, Lemon Creams, Super Creams, Ginger, Shortbread, Choc-Chip and My Crunchies, while the All Day range offers coconut biscuits with Golden Syrup and Chai Latte flavours. Our BISCO 500g Bites range provides an affordable option while maintaining our focus on taste and quality.

Together, these ranges allow our retail customers to cater for different consumer segments – from shoppers looking for trusted everyday favourites to those seeking something a little more indulgent.

We also continue to look for opportunities to innovate within the category. The HENRO Disco’s range, for example, was developed for the popular sandwich biscuit segment, giving retailers another option for consumers who enjoy a fun, indulgent biscuit experience.

While biscuits remain at the heart of our manufacturing business, Biscoplus is increasingly expanding its offering into complementary categories to meet a broader range of everyday consumer needs. This includes products such as Henro Peanut Butter, Honey Spread and Condensed Milk, allowing us to offer retailers a more diverse portfolio beyond biscuits. As a manufacturer, we recognise that our local production capabilities and capacity do not extend across every category, so where it makes commercial and strategic sense, we partner with international suppliers to source products that meet our quality and value requirements. This approach allows us to broaden our offering while continuing to focus on quality, affordability and relevance for both retailers and consumers.Bisco_Peanut.png

Quality and value go hand in hand

One of our key strengths is our focus on delivering quality at competitive prices. This is particularly important in today’s retail environment, where affordability is a major consideration for shoppers and retailers are looking for products that offer real value.

HENRO is positioned as our premium brand, while BISCO offers an affordable-quality proposition. This enables our retail partners to serve consumers across different price points while maintaining the taste and quality that shoppers expect.

For independent retailers, wholesalers and larger retail groups alike, having access to products that offer a strong value proposition can help them respond to changing consumer needs, drive sales and encourage repeat purchases.

More than just a biscuit supplier

For us, supplying the retail trade is about much more than putting products on shelves. We place strong emphasis on service, responsiveness and building long-term relationships with our customers and partners.

Our family-business roots remain an important part of who we are. Our ethos, “We Try Harder”, reflects our commitment to doing more for our customers, from our production processes through to the level of service and support we provide. We also work with major South African retailers on trusted-brand and private-label products, allowing us to support a variety of retail requirements.

We believe this flexibility is important in a retail market where no two customers have exactly the same requirements. Our aim is to understand the needs of our retail partners and work with them to deliver solutions that make commercial sense for their businesses.

Built for a changing retail market

We are also looking ahead. While biscuits and cookies remain at the heart of our business, we continue to explore new product categories and opportunities as consumer tastes, shopping habits and retail requirements evolve.

Our reach has also grown beyond South Africa, with products exported into Southern Africa and other international markets. Our manufacturing operation is supported by FSSC 22000 and SMETA compliance, giving our retail and business partners confidence in our approach to food safety, ethical practices and responsible manufacturing.

For our retail customers, this means a supplier that combines experience, product choice, affordability, manufacturing capability and service – all backed by a genuine understanding of the trade.

Ultimately, we understand something fundamental about the biscuit category: shoppers want products that taste good, offer value and fit comfortably into the family budget. By combining our family heritage with an expanding portfolio and a clear focus on the needs of the trade, we aim to give retailers products and service they can feel confident putting in front of their customers.

For a business that started with a family passion for baking, our recipe for growth remains refreshingly straightforward: quality products, competitive value, strong relationships and a willingness to keep trying harder. That is the Bisco Plus promise – and one we intend to carry forward for many years to come.
