Clicks and Spear Reit join forces to support Operation Smile’s life-changing work
A donation of essential baby items valued at over R42,000 was officially handed over to Operation Smile South Africa, thanks to a joint initiative by Clicks and property partner Spear Reit.
The contribution includes baby formula, nappies and wet wipes - critical supplies that will support young patients and their caregivers as part of Operation Smile’s 2025 surgical programme.
This donation follows an appeal by Operation Smile to assist with basic essentials for families travelling to access cleft lip and palate surgeries. These life-changing procedures are taking place from May to October in Johannesburg, Nelspruit and Mthatha in the Eastern Cape.
“Clicks is proud to once again support Operation Smile in their incredible work. Vulnerable children are close to our hearts, and we’re pleased to make a meaningful difference in building healthier communities,” said Vikash Singh,
Group Managing Executive: Clicks THB SA. “We remain committed to partnerships that help create a healthier future for all South Africans.”
The donation was made possible through the combined effort of Clicks and Spear Reit, one of the retailer’s long-term property partners.
“Generosity is a privilege,” said Quintin Rossi, CEO of Spear Reit Limited. “If we can use our tenant relationships - such as the one we share with Clicks - to support a worthy organisation like Operation Smile, then we’re doing more than business. We’re helping to create smiles, literally and figuratively.”
Each of the surgical programmes caters for up to 50 children, who range in age from six months upwards, and their caregivers. Families travel long distances and often stay overnight for screening or surgery, making baby essentials a critical need during these programmes.
“It’s important that we reach children who are most vulnerable and in need of the services we offer,” said
Operation Smile has a longstanding relationship with Clicks and performs free, life-changing cleft lip and palate surgeries for vulnerable children across South Africa. The three programmes - in Johannesburg (May), Nelspruit (July), and Mthatha (October) - will provide care and new hope to families who need it most.
