First ever Sixty60 Day delivers “Gees” at Laerskool Die President

| Social Responsibility

If you ever needed proof that Sixty60 has officially entered South African pop culture, look no further than Laerskool Die President in Germiston.

A few months ago, the school reached out to the Checkers Sixty60 team with an unusual request: their learners love Sixty60 so much that they wanted to kick off the 2026 school year with a full‑on Sixty60 Day.

And not just a casual dress-up day — they wanted the whole shebang.

From the very first conversation, it was clear that the teachers were on a mission. They wanted to motivate and inspire the more than 730 learners, with a big dose of excitement and “gees”.

So the Sixty60 team jumped in to help make the day unforgettable. And unforgettable it was.

On Friday, 20 February, the school grounds exploded into a sea of Sixty60 teal as learners and teachers arrived in creative, hilarious and downright impressive Sixty60‑themed outfits.

Activities included a series of fun 60‑minute and 60‑second challenges - such as relay races, maths sprints, colouring contests, push-up competitions, while Checkers added to the fun with face painting, stilt walkers, a photo booth, snacks and drinks to keep the energy high.

But the highlight of the day? Oh, that required a little… airspace.

Just when everyone thought the festivities couldn’t get any bigger, a sudden buzz filled the sky. Learners stopped. Teachers froze. And then - the Sixty60 helicopter swooped into view, heading straight for the school’s sports field. It was the ultimate surprise delivery, and judging by the screams and wide eyes, no one saw it coming.

Stepping out of the helicopter was none other than comedian and TV personality Jason Goliath, armed with jokes, prizes and enough charm to light up the whole of Germiston.

Best‑dressed learners skipped home with goody bags packed with Sixty60 merch, gadgets and other delights. The teachers and school were also surprised with tokens of thanks for the heart-and-soul work they do every day.

What made the day truly special was seeing how much Sixty60 means to South Africans. A brand that started as a convenient delivery service has become a little piece of South African magic: delivering groceries, saving time, bringing joy, and every now and then… landing a helicopter on a school field just to make kids smile.
