Western Cape community gardens flourish with Shoprite support

| Social Responsibility

More than 15 food gardens in the Western Cape are increasing local food production in their communities through support from Shoprite and The Greater Tygerberg Partnership, a non-profit organisation focused on community development and food security.

The recent distribution of seedlings, fertiliser, tools and other essential resources in Bellville, Cape Town, is helping emerging community gardens produce fresh food more consistently.

Hunger relief and food security remain key focus areas of the retailer’s Act For Change programme, through which Shoprite supports more than 330 food gardens covering over 5.3 million m² and indirectly impacts more than 100 000 beneficiaries across South Africa.
