Over the past seven days, the Shoprite Group opened 16 new shopping destinations, including two Shoprite, three Checkers and two Usave supermarkets; one Little Me, one Medirite, one Checkers Liquorshop, one Checkers Outdoor, one UNIQ clothing by Checkers, and four Petshop Science stores.

Collectively these retail businesses created 358 new job opportunities across the Western Cape, Eastern Cape and Gauteng provinces.

The latest store to launch today, 31 July, is the highly anticipated flagship Checkers Fresh X that occupies prime retail space at the Hyde Park Corner shopping centre, giving Sandton shoppers a new go-to for premium fresh food and everyday convenience.

In line with the mall’s high-end retail offering, the state-of-the-art supermarket introduces the brand’s latest design features with an easy-to-navigate layout for a more seamless shopping experience.

Customers can look forward to a wide range of fresh, local and international products, along with specialist in-store departments including:

• An in-store Kauai
• An in-store Krispy Kreme
• A Meat Market with free range chicken and restaurant-quality steak;
• A bakery with artisan breads and cakes;
• A dedicated health and wellness section;

• An authentic feel wine cellar;
• Fresh fruit and vegetables;

• Hot and cold foods deli; and
• A Money Market

Checkers Hyde Park Corner created 138 new jobs and will be under the leadership of Branch Manager Ree O’Brein, who joined Checkers in 2018 as a trainee manager and was previously at the helm of Checkers Barlow Park.

A standalone Petshop Science is now also open in Hyde Park Corner, offering premium pet food, treats, toys, and veterinary-approved essentials from renowned local and international brands such as Montego, Royal Canine, Ultra Dog, and Rogz, Nandoe and Small Batches.   

The Checkers FX store trades daily from 08:00 to 20:00, while Petshop Science Hyde Park welcomes customers on Monday – Friday from 08:00 to 19:00, and between 08:00 and 18:00 over weekends.
