SPAR Partners with Bata to step up for South African learners with affordable back-to-school deals

| Supplier news

As the 2026 academic year kicked off, SPAR returned with its highly anticipated back-to-school collaboration with Bata.

Recognising the vital role that quality footwear plays in a learner’s development, SPAR is making durable, comfortable Bata school shoes accessible to families across South Africa at a fraction of the cost.

From the classroom to the playground, a shoe that offers proper arch support, breathability, and flexibility is essential for concentration and physical well-being.

Bata has long been a household name in South Africa, known for crafting shoes that withstand the rigors of the school day. By providing shoes that prevent discomfort and blisters, SPAR and Bata are ensuring that students can focus on what matters most, their education.

This year’s promotion has highlighted a heartwarming trend across the country, the spirit of the "extended family." SPAR has seen an influx of shoppers who aren't necessarily buying for their own children, but for nieces, nephews, younger siblings, and neighbours.

"Being a parent doesn't strictly require having children of your own, it's about being present for the children you care about," says Mpudi Maubane, PR, Communications and Sponsorship National Manager at The SPAR Group. "We are moved by the many customers using this deal to support their loved ones’ kids. Whether you are an aunt, an older brother, or a family friend, this promotion is designed to help you play that vital role in a child's life without the stress of high costs."

In an economy where parents are balancing the costs of stationery, uniforms, and transport, SPAR’s latest promotion is designed to ease the financial load.

  • SPAR Rewards customers who spend R350 or more in-store can purchase a pair of Bata school shoes for only R75.
  • By integrating this offer into the daily grocery shop, SPAR eliminates the need for extra trips to specialty stores. Parents can stock up on lunchbox essentials and walk out with high-quality footwear in one seamless visit.

A pair of school shoes may seem like a small detail, but for a child, it restores dignity and provides the confidence to stand tall in class," says Maubane. "Our goal is to ensure that no learner starts the year at a disadvantage due to lack of proper footwear."

The offer is valid from 29 Dec 2025 until 8 Feb 2026, in-store only. To claim the offer, customers simply need to:

  1. Spend R350 or more in a single transaction.
  2. Swipe their SPAR Rewards card.
  3. Visit the in-store kiosk or service counter to purchase their Bata school shoes for R75.

Note: The offer is valid while stocks last, and sizes are limited (unisex children's sizes 12–13 and 1–4).
