Woolworths recalls WBeauty shampoo after bacteria found

| News

Woolworths has recalled its WBeauty Complete Clarifying Shampoo after testing detected bacteria in a limited batch of the 250ml product.

The bacterium identified was Pluralibacter gergoviae, which can occur in wet manufacturing environments. Woolworths said the risk to healthy people is considered low but advised customers with weakened immune systems to stop using the product.

The affected shampoo has been removed from stores. Customers who purchased it can return it to any Woolworths store for a full refund, with no proof of purchase required.

The shampoo is designed to remove excess oil and product build-up and contains ingredients including witch hazel, apple cider vinegar, activated charcoal and rose geranium oil.

Woolworths said its WBeauty range is manufactured in South Africa and produced according to its Good Beauty Principles, with products assessed by independent toxicologists and accredited laboratories.

The retailer stressed that product safety remains a top priority and said the recall forms part of its quality-control processes.
