Black Friday 2018 deals from Makro, Checkers, Takealot and other retailers

With Black Friday set to take place on the 23rd November, a number of major South African retailers have already begun to outline their plans for the biggest shopping day on the calendar, including early sales.

Black Friday, and Cyber Monday is often seen as a major test for these larger stores, with both Pick n Pay and Makro prepping months in advance to ensure a smooth process for consumers.

This will include the introduction of new technology, as well as large amounts of additional stock and extra technical preparations for increased online shopping.

Below BusinessTech has collated the major retailers who have confirmed they will be holding Black Friday deals in a helpful list.


Checkers

Customers can sign up to receive a list of Checkers’ Black Friday deals ahead of time.

The retailer has promised to bring its customers the lowest supermarket prices and the most competitive Black Friday 2018 deals.


Clicks

Clicks’ Black Friday 2018 deals will run from 23 – 25 November, with special pre-Black Friday deals starting on the 16th of November.

Some of the deals that customers can include:

  • Up to 70% off technology and accessories
  • Up to 50% off beauty products
  • Up to 50% off electrical products
  • Up to 40% off health products
  • Up to 50% off household products
  • Up to 30% off baby products

 


Game

Game said it will offer ‘phenomenal specials’ in every merchandise category at all its 145 stores in South Africa and Africa.

Most Game stores will open several hours earlier than normal – some as early as midnight on 22 November – to accommodate the rush.


Makro

Makro has announced that it hosting both Black Friday and Cyber Monday specials.

Part of Makro’s preparation for Black Friday will also include the rollout of new technology.

“Makro will be rolling out a new mobile pay-point system,” it said. “This addition will assist consumers to pay for purchases while standing in the queue.”

Speaking to BusinessTech, the retailer also expanded on which items will likely be the most popular on the day.

“Items such as high-tech products as well as small and large appliances are very popular during this period,” it said.

“Festive season groceries also feature top of the list.”


Pick n Pay

Pick n Pay has launched dedicated Black Friday deals for its online customers in Johannesburg, Pretoria and Cape Town as a ‘taste’ of what is to come.

The retailer said that online customers can expect discounts of up to 50% across various categories on the Pick n Pay’s online shop, including liquor, food, toiletries and household products. Deals have also been launched for select appliances.

The deals will run weekly from 5 to 25 November 2018.

To avoid disappointment and cater to as many customers as possible, Pick n Pay has also made special arrangements to get more stock than ever before for 23 November.


Shoprite

Shoprite has promised customers its biggest Black Friday ever, with up to 50% off on selected products.

Its sale will take place on 23 November, with shoppers encouraged to sign up for access to deals ahead of time.


Takealot

Julie-Anne Walsh, chief marketing officer of Takealot, told MyBroadband that they intend to go even bigger on Black Friday this year.

“Takealot will be offering amazing discounts on thousands of products over a five-day period,” said Walsh.

“Customers can expect discounts on everything from cellphones and laptops, to TVs, kitchen appliances, beauty ranges, toys, baby products, gaming, liquor and much more.”
