Makro rolls out Pick-Up lockers with Sasol, announces new partnership with McDonald’s SA

Buying from Makro is now more convenient than ever thanks to Makro Pick-Up lockers. The field test phase for the innovative online fulfilment solution has officially begun at select Sasol forecourts in Gauteng.

In November 2014, Makro announced its plans to launch a locker-based pick-up service, as a means to provide additional delivery options for shoppers. This new delivery option will supplement the home delivery and in-store click and collect solutions already offered by the company.

Makro CEO Doug Jones says, “The added option of collecting your online purchase from a secure locker at a location close to you, or on your way during daily travels, has amplified the convenience of online shopping. We have and continue to expand our online range and hope that the combination of convenience and additional variety will make our customers’ lives easier. We are not limited to what our store can hold – the site now boasts 20 000 products that can be purchased online, with all a high percentage of products eligible for delivery to a locker - and customers are no longer limited to two choices for delivery.”

“At Sasol we pride ourselves on our innovative spirit and are thus delighted to be associated with Makro on this unique and convenient initiative. Our premium Retail offer aims to provide an exceptional Retail experience by offering to our customer’s quality fuel products, ancillary services and innovative convenience retailing. Omnichannel fits right in with this goal”, says Mohamed Carrim, Head of Retail at Southern African Energy.

Makro partners with McDonald’s SA as newest pick-up partner

Makro announced their partnership with McDonald’s SA to field test lockers at the quick service restaurant. The McDonald’s pilot forms part of Makro’s drive to acquire access to sites that enable secure delivery of online customer orders to conveniently located lockers.

We have seen steady growth in our online retail figures and while we continue to leverage our strengths as a traditional retailer, we are also constantly thinking of innovative ways in which to enhance and simplify the online shopping experience, so that our customers can engage with us at the time and in the channel of their choice” added Jones.

The McDonald’s partnership is in line with the original strategy of positioning lockers in safe and convenient locations including petrol station forecourts, fast food restaurants, office parks and Makro stores. Ten Makro Pick-up Lockers will be rolled out over the next month; five at Sasol forecourts, four at McDonald’s restaurants and 1 at Makro Woodmead.
