Tesco lines to go on sale in Spain via reciprocal deal with El Corte Inglés

After it was reported last week that Tesco has started selling products in its domestic stores sourced from El Corte Inglés, it has been revealed that the UK group’s own brand lines are to go on sale at the Spanish department store chain.

According to The Guardian, the wholesale deal will see British favourites including teas, biscuits and cereals from Tesco’s product range sold in El Corte Inglés outlets in Spain.

Last week it was revealed that El Corte Inglés has been running a trial with Tesco in handful of stores in London. Around 48 lines were available during the trial, centred around typical Spanish cuisine, including Iberian sausages, beans, rice, canned fish, vegetables, nougat, olive oil and vinegar.

El Corte Inglés said the initiative had proved a success and will now be expanded to a number of Tesco stores around the UK, including Cambridge, Twickenham, Bristol, Brighton and Edinburgh. Tesco said: “We’re always looking to offer customers new and exciting products as part of our world food range. We’re currently trialling products from El Corte Inglés in a small number of stores and are looking forward to seeing how customers respond.”

The Guardian said that Tesco launched its international wholesale operation less than four years ago and has since expanded into over 20 overseas markets with its organic, gluten-free and speciality babycare lines proving popular in some developing markets where such products are not easily available.
