Aldi trials new store format
Supermarket chain Aldi has launched four ‘new look’ stores across east Australia, exploring how various upgrades may further improve the shopping experience for customers.
Multi-tiered fruit and vegetable displays, drop and spot lighting and pastel-toned signage are among the new concepts, designed to create a premium feel in the trial stores. The upgrades will also give shoppers access to an expanded product range, particularly in fresh produce and chiller lines.
The new look stores are in Kallangur (Queensland), Chisholm (ACT), McGraths Hill (NSW) and Highton (Victoria). The new layouts will improve store navigation, access to fresh produce bay areas and check-out wait times. Other in-store features such as LED lights as part of the trial upgrades are designed to help reduce energy consumption and emissions.
Aldi operates 367 supermarkets across Australia and announced earlier in the year that it was looking to increase its market share in Australia, stepping up competition against dominant retailers Coles and Woolworths.
Aldi’s rapidly growing network has more than 7,000 stores and serves millions of people across three continents.
