Virtual vouchers to help for those left destitute in harsh economic conditions

| On the move

South Africans who want to reach out and help fellow citizens who are economically destitute, in a time where physical contact is severely restricted due to the lockdown, can now buy virtual vouchers via an electronic funds transfer (EFT).

The EFT functionality adds to the convenience of buying virtual vouchers, which were recently introduced and can be redeemed at any Shoprite, Checkers and Usave store.

Many have already responded and bought tens of thousands of vouchers on the Computicket website since they became available at the beginning of April when consumers could only use their credit cards to purchase them.

Individuals who make use of these vouchers are encouraged to vouch for its authenticity by informing the recipient that they can expect an SMS, which will enable them to buy food and goods. A virtual voucher is dispatched via SMS within an hour of its purchase.

These vouchers are valid for three years, can only be used for in-store purchases, and no change is given if the purchase value is less than the voucher value. The remaining value is loaded onto a gift card in stores.

Money Market counters in Shoprite, Checkers and Usave supermarkets further enable customers to, despite the lockdown, transfer money to recipients without bank accounts They are able to, with a South African ID, send and collect cash from anywhere in the country. Money transfers to over 100 other countries are also very convenient with no additional commissions or hidden costs.
