Shoprite creates over 150 new jobs in Khayelitsha

| Store Openings

Shoprite is bringing its promise of everyday low prices to customers in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, on Thursday, 30 June 2016, when it opens its doors at the newly built Thembokwezi Centre.

The new store opening has created over 150 job opportunities in a community experiencing high levels of unemployment and joblessness. According to Statistics South Africa, the unemployment rate in Khayalitsha increased by 2.2% to 26.7% in March this year. As South Africa’s largest private sector employer, the Shoprite Group continues to create employment opportunities for South Africans on a daily basis.

Shoprite’s opening at Thembokwezi Centre means that customers in the area will be able to find their favourite groceries closer to home, without having to travel long distance. Customers can look forward to great prices on the brands they have come to love and trust as well as in-store services such as an excellent meat market, bakery, a hot and cold foods deli and a fresh fruit and vegetable department.

The new store will bring the added convenience of the Money Market Counter at which customers can make easy and affordable money transfers to any Shoprite store across South Africa; settle municipal or service account payments; buy national lottery tickets, bus, airline and Computicket event tickets; and more.

Shoprite is always working to save customers money, especially in the current challenging economic times. With EeziCoupons, customers have access to even greater instant shopping discounts. Customers can simply visit the Shoprite mobi website shoprite.mobi, download the app or get the USSD code by dialing *120*569*1# to start saving.

Shoprite stores have become an integral part of the communities in which they operate, with the retailer not only meeting customer demands with its everyday low prices, but also acting to facilitate positive change in the community. Through its #ActForChange initiative, Shoprite will be donating R5000 to a local charity on the day of the store opening, and pledges to continue to work towards uplifting the community.
