100th Checkers store opens in Gauteng at Ferndale on Republic

| Store Openings

Checkers opened the doors to its 100th store in Gauteng at Ferndale on Republic, previously known as Brightwater Commons in Randburg, on Thursday, 29 August 2019.

Almost 90 new jobs were created, bringing the full staff complement at Checkers Ferndale to 137, of which 105 are women and 108 are youth (between the ages of 18 and 35).

The new state-of-the-art store promises a clutter-free experience, wider aisles and shelves designed with the shopper in mind whilst the seamless floors mean trolleys make less noise when pushed through the store.

The in-store service departments are designed to look and feel like a store within a store and include an impressive Cheese Deli, Hot & Cold Foods Deli, Bakery, Fresh Fruit & Vegetables, Butchery, Coffee Bar, Sushi Bar and a Wine Shop, which is designed to look like a wine cellar.

Customers can also save time by making use of the range of extensive services available at the Money Market counter including payment of municipal or service accounts, buying national lottery, bus, airline or Computicket event tickets, and much more.

Checkers Ferndale will be managed by experienced Branch Manager, Terence O’Brien, who joined the Shoprite Group in 2009.

“We are excited to welcome the local community to the new store and are committed to ensuring an enjoyable shopping experience for our customers.”

The store’s trading hours are 08:00 - 20:00 from Mondays to Saturdays and 09:00 - 15:30 on Sundays.
