Shoprite continues march into Kenya with opening of third store

| Store Openings

Further strengthening its position in the East African market, the Shoprite Group launched its third supermarket in Kenya, and the first outside Nairobi.

The opening of Shoprite City Mall in Nyali, Mombasa on 29 August, has created 115 new job opportunities, of which 65% are occupied by women. This is in addition to the 240 jobs created following the opening of Shoprite Westgate Mall and Shoprite Garden City in December 2018 and March 2019 respectively. A fourth Shoprite supermarket is scheduled to open at the end of September 2019.

In addition to job creation, the Group contributes to the Kenyan economy by sourcing more than 80% of its products from 345 local suppliers.

The new 1 900m² Shoprite City Mall offers customers a convenient shopping experience, catering for all their daily, weekly and monthly food and household requirements. Shoprite also has a number of in-store fresh food departments including a Meat Market, Hot & Cold Foods Deli, Fish Shop, Bakery and Fresh Fruit & Vegetables.

In a first for any Shoprite supermarket in Africa, customers at Shoprite City Mall can also enjoy the products they purchased at the in-store Hot & Cold Deli at a special seating area created specifically for this purpose.

Experienced branch manager, Allan Kamunde, will oversee operations at Shoprite City Mall, and the store’s trading hours are 09h00 - 21h00 from Mondays to Sundays.
