Boxer opens historic 450th store

| Store Openings

Proudly KZN founded Discount Supermarket Boxer Superstores has officially opened its 450th Store, signalling a new era for the retailer in South Africa.

The grand opening of Boxer Inanda Crossing, took place in Inanda, KZN, and emphasised the important role KZN has played in the Supermarket’s history. “Boxer was founded in Empangeni, KwaZulu-Natal 46 years ago, and this opening, in the historic town of Inanda, is testament to the loyalty our brand has to the communities that we serve. Inanda is an ever growing hub, and the many thousands of residents deserve a supermarket that offers great pricing, wonderful promotions and world class service,” said Boxer Managing Executive Marek Masojada.

To be fair, the retailer had actually made its mark in Inanda way before the grand opening; rushing to the aid of hundreds of Inanda residents who had been devastated by a recent water spout and heavy rains. “We had the store opening coming up, but we could not wait till we were open to help, it’s just something that our business is built on, helping the community,” said Ntombi Dludla - Group Executive for Sustainability. Working with local councillors and several key partners, Boxer packed 361 massive hampers and handed them to the affected families at the then unfinished entrance to the store.

The retailer, which has three trading formats namely Boxer Superstores, Boxer Liquors and Boxer Build, has put effort into growing every aspect of the business. With five Distribution Centres, a Meat Factory and stores located in every province in South Africa and eSwatini, the goal is clear; Serve all.  “We’re especially proud of our ‘all under one roof’ offerings, which give customers the ability to shop for a range of curated items, pay bills, book flights, and so much more,” added Masojada. And the MORE is certainly part of the brand’s DNA. With butcheries, bakeries, fresh fruit and veg and a convenient Hot Foods Section, Boxer gives visitors the opportunity to take care of daily, or monthly shopping needs, while also providing a handy B-Money kiosk where bills, accounts and other tasks can easily be completed. Add to this a strategic plan to be the friendliest and most efficient team in retail, the discounter is certainly sticking to its core focus; customer satisfaction.

The opening in Inanda fully showcased Boxer’s brand and how it dedicates its marketing efforts towards educating shoppers about the company.  Loads of giveaways, spot prizes, outside entertainment, branded taxis, unique pamphlets, signage and even a dedicated radio show from Inanda FM  pointed to the state of the art Boxer building on Cornick Ndlovu Highway, which was specifically built to house Boxer, and provide a convenient and safe place to shop.  The giant iconic Boxer logo, which adorns the beautifully designed walls of the Ikhwani Junction building, is a definite statement that Boxer is here to stay, and will always be a shining light for shoppers who want and need only the very best in discount offerings.
