Woolworths has recalled four Country Road mug lines that "unexpectedly break" when hot liquid is poured into them.

The Bermuda, Sapphire, Dark Olive and Lilac versions of the Country Road Two-Tone DEMM Mug range must be returned to stores for a full refund, the group said.

"This is due to a manufacturing defect having been identified in certain mugs, causing the mug to unexpectedly break when hot liquid is poured into it, resulting in the base separating from the body of the mug."

Only the four colour variations are affected, and the rest of the DEMM range remains safe to use, Woolworths said.

The mugs retail for R199 each.

In February, Woolworths recalled its peanut butter ice cream brand over possible health risks.

At the time, tests on its Woolworths Peanut Butter Ice Cream brand showed the product contained higher than legal levels of the naturally occurring aflatoxin, which can be dangerous to humans.
