Nederburg’s Eminence does it again

| Wine and liquor

The 2012 vintage of Nederburg’s flagship natural sweet wine, Eminence, is the only South African wine featured as one of the top-ten wines in the 2016 Muscats du Monde in France, also earning a gold medal.

This limited-edition specialty sweet wine is made for exclusive sale at the annual Nederburg Auction. Earlier this year, the same wine won trophies at the International Wine Challenge (IWC) in the United Kingdom, and the 2016 Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show in South Africa.

Grapes for this well-awarded wine were sourced from 27-year-old Muscat de Frontignan vines, located in Simondium.

Cellar master Andrea Freeborough describes the layered and complex dessert wine as very fragrant with typical Muscat and floral notes with aromas of currants, raisins, citrus and spice and a rich, luscious palate, balanced by good acidity.

Previous vintages of Eminence have also excelled internationally, earning gold medals at earlier competitive events, including the International Wine Challenge, International Wine & Spirit Competition, Decanter World Wine Awards and the Six Nations Wine Challenge. The 2008 vintage featured as one of the top-ten wines in the Muscats du Monde in 2015, while the 2009 vintage won a trophy at Decanter World Wine Awards and was also a double-gold winner at Veritas.

Eminence also features on the Top Wine SA Hall of Fame list and is among the SA Wine Index Grand Wine Collections for the high number of accolades the wine has received across vintages internationally and locally.

Earlier this year, Nederburg was one of just 50 wineries globally to feature on the prestigious 2016 Drinks International list of the world's most admired brands. Two hundred wine experts, including thirty Masters of Wine, compiled the list.
