Nederburg's heritage heroes wines wow UK tastemakers

| Wine and liquor

Nederburg's gourmet range, Heritage Heroes is charming some high-profile tastemakers in the UK.

The collection of five individually named wines, each to honour a personality in Nederburg's history, is represented on the wine menu of the newest restaurant of celebrity chef Marco Pierre White, called Wheelers Rib Room & Oyster Bar and located at the boutique Threadneedles Hotel in London.

White, also a popular TV personality, was 33 when his restaurant was awarded three Michelin stars, making him the youngest UK chef at the time to achieve such a distinction. (He has since returned them to take the pressure off and spend more time with his family.) He has trained chefs such as Gordon Ramsay and the Australian Curtis Stone and is regarded by some as the godfather of modern cooking. He appeared onMasterChef South Africa last year.

Roger Jones, a UK restaurateur and international wine judge, writer and consultant, is well-known for his acclaimed restaurant, The Harrow at Little Bedwyn in Wiltshire that boasts an exceptional wine list. He encountered The Beautiful Lady, a Gewűrztraminer, while in Germany at the recent 2015 ProWein exhibition.  Writing for Harpers, he called it a "beauty" and praised its "seamless scattering of rose petals (and) Turkish delight nuances".

Heritage Heroes wines have also been listed by London's luxury Guoman hotel group and the Park Plaza Riverbank.

Apart from the aromatic The Beautiful Lady, the other wines in the collection are two wooded whites - The Anchorman Chenin Blanc and The Young Airhawk Sauvignon Blanc -  as well as a Rhône-style red, The Motorcycle Marvel and a Bordeaux style red,  The Brew Master.

The wines are available from Nederburg itself, the Vinoteque in Stellenbosch and selected specialty retailers in the major centres.
