Makro, Game and Builders reveal Black Friday plans

| Marketing and Promotions

Following a further round of in-depth Black Friday consumer research, Massmart’s Makro, Game and Builders stores will re-introduce month-long Black Friday promotions this year.

Andrew Stein, Massmart’s Chief Customer Officer, notes that this strategy is in line with customer preferences for less Black Friday pressure, more real deals and extra time to shop the deals and validate their authenticity.

“Despite the difficult year local consumers have faced, our customers have expressed keen interest in Black Friday this year. Massmart’s customers have been clear that they prefer month-long promotions as they have more time to compare pricing and shop the items they really need; and are able to avoid the Black Friday rush.” he says.

“With our strong store presence, online home delivery or online in-store pickup offerings we’re ready to make this Black Friday a convenient and stress-free shopping experience.”

Consumers want electronics and essentials

“Our research shows that Electronics, Computers, TVs, Audio Systems and, Groceries and Beverages are the most in-demand products this year. We have also identified specific demand for essential items like tinned food, rice, coffee, sugar, washing powder, and milk,” says Katherine Madley, Vice President of Marketing at Massmart.

“In line with these insights we have extended our Black Friday focus at Game and Makro to provide best possible value on groceries and pantry essentials.”

Herman Venter, Chief Merchandising Officer at Massmart notes that Makro will be offering bulk and multi-packs, as well as further savings on their More4Less essential bundle deals, while Game is including unbeatable deals on household and pantry essentials.

Builders will offer seasonal essentials for those looking to improve their homes – such as air conditioners and paint – as well as specials on energy solutions.

Convenience is key

Shoppers have asked for more convenience this Black Friday, and so we are keen for our customers to use the OneCart, on-demand shopping service. The service provides a personal shopper to do your shopping at a variety of retail outlets that include Makro and selected Game stores.

Online shoppers at Builders, Game and Makro stores will also have the option of online click and collect this year at all Makro and Builders stores as well as 67 Game stores.

It’s notable that approximately 98% of Makro’s online click and collect orders are ready for next day collection.

Black Friday planning

Herman Venter explains, “Our merchandising team has worked for over a year to secure the best possible prices on all items stocked at Makro, Game and Builders, and we encourage shoppers to use price comparison tools, before making purchasing decisions this Black Friday.”

All Makro, Game and Builders deals will be available online and in-store while stocks last, with weekly deals being available on the following dates:

Makro

1. 29 October – 5 November

2. 6 November – 12 November
