The Shoprite Group has opened 31 new stores – equating to more than one a day – during the month of September, creating 521 new jobs.

The wait is finally over! Clicks is pleased to invite shoppers to come and meet the latest addition to the Clicks family: Clicks Baby Menlyn Park. This is the fourth standalone Clicks Baby Store to open in South Africa in the past 18 months.

One of the United States' (US) leading convenience retail brands, Circle K, is expected to open its first South African store in October.

South African retail giant Pick n Pay is targeting the middle market with a new range of QualiSave stores, which promises to offer essential items at lower prices, accounting for 40% of company-owned supermarkets.

The Shoprite Group opened its second standalone Medirite Plus pharmacy in the Western Cape at the Checkers Centre in Stellenbosch. This follows the launch of the first Medirite Plus in Willowbridge Village late last year.

Shoprite now has an online liquor store, LiquorShop Online, where customers can shop for more than 3,000 drinks and accessories for delivery nationwide.

A fresh new Starbucks South Africa retail experience has launched inside the Checkers Flamingo supermarket. Set within the picturesque surroundings of a rolling five-acre heritage village at Modderfontein Junction, this super-convenient kiosk offers a brand new option for the family-oriented denizens of this fun-filled suburb.

Over the next three years, Pick n Pay will add another 200 new stores to its Boxer discount supermarket chain, from 342 company-owned stores currently, as it takes on Shoprite in the lower income part of the market.

Clicks, the JSE-listed health and beauty retailer yesterday, announced it would spend R846 million of capex in the new financial year for expansion of stores as it inches towards its target of establishing 900 stores in South Africa in the long term.
